Heritage Becomes Home

Conversion and extension of a 19th-century industrial complex in Berlin into 95 residential apartments. Original brick structures were retained and repaired. New buildings use matching brick but with contemporary fenestration and detailing.

The development includes landscaped courtyards, underground parking, and ground-floor commercial space. High ceilings and large windows preserve industrial character.

Adaptive Reuse

The conversion saved multiple buildings that had sat vacant for over a decade. By maintaining industrial volumes and robust finishes, the design attracts residents who appreciate authentic architecture rather than superficial loft aesthetics.

Material authenticity was crucial throughout. Original brick walls were repaired rather than replaced wherever structurally sound. New interventions match in dimension and texture but use slightly different bond patterns. The contrast is subtle but honest.
